More than 525 years ago, the Spanish brought Christmas to the “New World”. In 1968, Fidel Castro put an end to the Christian holiday because Catholicism and Communism “were not compatible”. He did not relent until the papal visit of Pope John Paul II in 1997, when he allowed for a “temporary reinstatement”. The temporary reinstatement has not yet been lifted.
