Mr. Lindbergh is best known for his solo flight across the Atlantic, the first by a single person. He is also known as an inventor, although not as widely proclaimed. For his flying skills, the world placed him on a pedestal almost as high as his flights above the ground, from which he did not want to fall - and yet, he held a closely guarded secret that he feared would topple him from the dizzy heights to the hard rocks of Earth.
